My colleague Iain usually unlocks the Abbey in the morning, but he's been on leave this week, so I've been doing it.
Here in the bell-tower, the early morning sun picks out the nest holes provided for pigeons, whose eggs and offspring would then be eaten by the household.
This was done after the Abbey had been turned into a secular house, in the late-16th century, as here
