Glen Hansard in a tent
Long day today, down in Castletownbere and Bantry almost all day. Home for a quick bite and then out for music. It's the Guitar Festival in Clon right now and they've put up a (small) Big Top in a field near us for some of the gigs. Tonight Glen Hansard played and it was really great, if deeply uncomfortable seating. There's always a few magic moments at Glen gigs, this being one song that never fails to move me.
A funny and tender moment was when he spoke about his mum in relation to one of his songs being her favourite, and how given the time on a Tuesday night she'd be at bingo. Among calls from the audience to ring his mum, he eventually did, she wasn't at bingo tonight, she said she couldn't afford it every night and he sang the song down the phone to her and having put her on speaker his possibly slightly bewildered mum sang the chorus for us. Magic.
