Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep
Today we visited Maligne Canyon and then drove to Miette where the hot springs are. We didn't actually have a dip in the springs - I gather that it's effectively just a hot swimming pool nowadays. Some of us did hike part way up an adjacent mountain, but we didn't have time to get above the tree line so we didn't get any great photos there.
On our travels we came across some bighorn sheep near the roadside: my main blip is a silhouette of one of these beasts which I was lucky enough to photograph as it stood up on a cliff edge.
The first extra is a more conventional photo of a couple of these super sheep. The second extra, taken with the fisheye lens, shows some of our group busy with their cameras on a bridge over Maligne Canyon. It was fascinating to see the Canyon at this time of year as my Editor and I did a guided ice-walk along the frozen river at the base of the canyon in early March four years ago; it looked a little different today!
The third extra shows a rather dramatic cloud formation, photographed from our picnic lunch spot.
The fourth extra shows John pondering whether he could fit this new lens into his suitcase - it seems that size does matter!
