'Britannia'
Today was a bit of an adventure.
Storm Ali arrived with strong winds and heavy rain. Our Wednesday Girls (now called 'Ladies who Lunch' ) had booked to go on a tour of the 'Britannia' at Ocean Terminal in Leith. And we were not going to let the weather put us off!
We all made it into Glasgow and got on the coach for Edinburgh in good time. Took a bus down to Leith from Princes Street, and had a snack before our tour time. Thoroughly enjoyed the tour, were surprised at how compact everything was, and enjoyed the audio info also.
The adventure though started after we left there.... Some of us decided to go for a meal, and get the 5.30pm coach home as it goes directly to EK, negating the necessity to change to another bus in Glasgow. So nine of us out of the 25 (only some of us in the picture) went to Bella Napoli for a meal. While there we were informed by text by one of the others that all trains were off to Glasgow, and that the bus station was chaotic.
We finished our meal and headed to the bus station..... and it was indeed chaotic. However, one of our number had the good sense to say that if we book a seat we will get priority on the bus over others. So we did, and we did! We made it on to the bus, apart from two of our number who had not gone to the ticket section to book, but had just joined the huge queue. (In the end though they got home by asking a husband to come and collect them)!
Meanwhile we had all been getting texts from our loved ones telling us that it was very wild in the west, more than in the east, and to get home as quickly as we could.
We made it, and were grateful not to have to spend the night in a shop doorway, as we only had some chocolate with us for sustenance. One of the girls did however, say that she would use her credit card for us to stay in the Balmoral. We should have held her to that.
All's well that ends well.....
