Tulsa to Oklahoma City
Quiter day today with a relatively short journey and a later start after we were up late at the casino :)
Started off in Tulsa to see the Golden Driller man- mainly because it reminds me of all those friends episodes. Then to Sapulpa to see the worlds largest gas pump.
In Stroud we went to the famous Rock cafe for lunch which was great. Thought to be the inspiration for many elements of Cars as Pixar used to eat there when researching for the film. Burnt down in 2008 and restored. Really friendly people here. And food was yum.
Then we went into Chandler to the Route 66 Interpretive Center. A little museum where you watch videos in various different seats including a couple where you lie on a bed!! Enjoyed looking at all the photography too.
Next we headed to Arcadia to a round barn built in 1898 and fairly recently restored with an impressive roof.
And the on to Pops a gas station which also sells soda...lots of it. Thousands of varieties. Including ranch dressing flavour yuck. I had a nice peach flavour and Rich had a cherry one.
Then swiftly onto the hotel. We arrived at 4 so our shortest day so far.
After a rest we nipped to Walmart again which was uneventful apart from on the way out it looked like Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds. Birds absolutely everywhere, the noise was incredible. We think it must have been a murmuration but never seen anything like it!!
Received our first bad news- we are heading to Amarillo today where we will hit our first bit of bad weather. Unfortunately we were supposed to be horse back riding at a Texas ranch but they have had to cancel. Was sad so ate some fudge.
Low roadkill count today: 3 armadillos, 1 raccoon, 1 squirrel
