Ring of Brodgar
Our tour of Neolithic Orkney continued with a guided walk round the Ring of Brodgar. I have to pay tribute to our Historic Scotland guide, Elaine Clarke, who gave us a full hour of information with great enthusiasm while horizontal rain battered and a gusting wind threatened to blow us down like dominoes. But we were a hardy group and stood, rain dripping from hoods and noses, taking it all in, distracted only by rainbows.
After another excellent lunch in the Stromness Teashop, and in better weather, we headed for Brough Head to potter about on the rocky and seaweedy shore, returning to our temporary home with a distinct suggestion of pink in the sky.
