Prime Position.

The market square has been in the centre of Cambridge since the Middle Ages. Boats used to sail here all the way from the sea at King's Lynn, before the Fens were drained. The ships and barges brought fish, wine, salt and luxury goods, to the docks along the river. People from all around came to trade, gossip and see justice done, as the market place was also the site of the gaol, public whippings, the stocks and where other grisly punishments were carried out. After a major fire occurred in 1849, the buildings in the square were cleared and the market redeveloped.  A much colder day today with a few showers. I bought some tasty Victoria plums from this stall.
