Manse
FA Cup time again, and an opportunity for a first visit to Knaresborough Town AFC at their Manse Lane ground.
Indeed it was my first visit to Knaresborough full stop and as soon as the train pulled in I was wondering why, as it seems an amazing little place to explore. I didn't have much time on this trip but did make it down to the riverside, walk under the viaduct and discover some of the wonderful trompe l'oeils that dot the town (e.g. extra).
For the match itself, Knaresborough had been drawn against former league club Workington, who sit a couple of steps up the football pyramid in the Northern Premier League. Knaresborough struggled to get a toe-hold in the game. Workington, without ever seeming vastly superior, found themselves four goals to the good before a late direct free kick salvaged some pride for the home team. 1-4 it finished.
And Knaresborough, I'll be back.
