Camino de Santiago
An estimated 250,000 pilgrims each year walk the route of the Camino de Santiago, to Santiago de Compostela where, since the 9th century CE, the bones of Santiago (or St James) are entombed. Quite a large number of them were here today - having travelled singly or with companions.. Parts of the route are marked in the streets by its scallop shell emblem a massive version of which can also be seen on the exterior of the cathedral.
