Lithgow Life #2
Had circumstances been different, Lithgow might ultimately have grown to become a major industrial centre with a population in the hundreds of thousands. From 1875 they were smelting iron ore here and producing enormous amounts of steel for the construction of the railway lines which now cross the continent. This was practicable because the town was situated on the main western railway itself and because coking coal was in plentiful supply from local mines.
Late this afternoon I decided to wander the old "Blast Furnace" ruins at Lithgow which now stand as a memorial to the town's early (but now long gone) industrial potential. The colour in this picture is pretty much sooc. There are no polarising filters (physical or digital) involved. Blue ain't it?
