Rudbeckia fulgida

These orange coneflowers or Rudbeckia fulgida are looking a bit bedraggled - but still doing their best to brighten up the garden at this time of the year.
They were named by Carl Linneus - the famous Swedish botanist, physician, and zoologist who formalised the modern system of naming organisms - after his mentor Olaus Rudbeck (1630-1702) and his son Olof Rudbeck (1660-1740). They were both professors of botany at Uppsala University.
Fulgida means ‘flashing' or 'glowing', and is derived from 'fulgidus', meaning 'brightly coloured’ …………………………..
