Kia Ora! (Hello in Maori language)
The sun decided to come out and Hugh and I decided to take the ferry 40 mins from Auckland to Waiheke island on a day trip. The route was very scenic and we passed by lots of islands including the volcano on Rangitoto Island and the Auckland skyline. We mostly took the coastal paths so we could explore the island better and came across some beautiful beaches and views from the village at Oneroa and Sandy bay. The island definitely has an interesting mix of tropical and north of Scotland!! After that we walked through the inner section with mostly housing - Hugh and I thought most of the houses looked like they were from Grand designs so beautiful! While walking we also heard an air raid siren go off! It stopped after it sounded twice and we assumed it was just a test as nothing else happened but Hugh and I were slightly terrified to say the least! By nightfall we managed to walk half way across the island (which was a good effort!) and ended the day at Onetangi beach. A fantastic day! :D
