First of the Season

Regular viewers will know that the Crocus season starts not in Spring but in Autumn, usually September here, when the combination of rain and falling temperatures trigger flowering.  We've had good, persistent rain and much lower night temperatures in the last few days and this has brought a surge of growth.  Crocus serotinus salzmannii is the very first, opening in today's sunshine.  There will be others tomorrow, several new buds appeared above ground between 10am when this blip was shot and 5pm this afternoon.

I got the supermarket sweep out of the way first this morning.  An early lunch then Physio at the Hospital for Jamie was follower by a very pleasant afternoon mini-blipmeet with Norfolkdoc who had a very special gift for me.  I left some small plants for the garden ..... but I also came away with a large plant for mine!  Good company, warm sunshine and an interesting garden to explore made it a real treat.  A return blipmeet, on our home soil is a must.
