Fire Mountain

The earth shook, and tongues of fire shot skyward. For the next 19 days flames erupted continuously from 32 newly formed craters. Glowing lava spewed forth and poured down the steep sopes of Timanfaya. It was the first day of September 1730 . By October three further fissures had opened up accompanied by more explosions and a shower of ash tht darkened the sky and hid the sun from view.  Volcanic eruptions lasted for 6 years.
