Gently down the stream

Sloe gin

I took this shot before breakfast while the sun was still low enough to light the back of the kitchen.  And after breakfast I made the sloe gin.  In between I had a drink.  Here is an old recipe (sorry, in imperial measures):

Ingredients
8 oz sloes
2 oz caster sugar
6 almonds
1 pint (or just under) gin
Method
Prick sloes with a needle to allow the juices out.  Bruise almonds.  Seal all ingredients in a bottle and leave for approx 3 months.

Could that be easier?  And this being 26th September, 3 months takes us up to 26th December, Boxing Day.  So a perfect Christmas winter drink.

For anyone who doesn't know about sloes (and I think you don't grow them in the Southern Hemisphere) they're the fruit of the blackthorn or may bush.  Prunus spinosa, relative of the wild damson and part of the rose family.

Hopefully this is wild enough for lovely Cailleach's WildWed challenge (thank you for hosting, C)

Cheers, chaps  xx
