9.00am: bike chain disaster; hands completely blackened by oil

9.25am: needed to shake hands with a new starter who I'm mentoring; awkward

9.30am: colleague Elisa suggests using something granular to scrub hands - only thing available was coffee; resulted in a stinking brown paste

1.00pm: grabbed lunch and colleague Kat shows image of daughter whose face was bitten at nursery and explains the nursery has a Biting Policy; desire not to have children is reinforced

1.30-5.30pm: gradually become hoarse after blathering on to the new starter about the Liberia project I'm involved in; office relieved as booming is subdued

7.00pm: preparations and cycle to what may be final trustees' meeting for refugee support group; held at Sue's house with prosecco on standby

11.00pm: following relatively successful meeting, eerie cycle home through the countryside and city centre, not too sozzled on prosecco; almost persuaded to retain involvement in group post-Mozambique move
