Wine Chateau
This morning, on our way to Apt, we called in on one of the several vineyards close to us, to buy some wine. The one we usually go to seemed to be running low, so we tried another one.
Chateau de Mille is signed from our usual road, but it is a steep and mostly unmade track that seems to go on for a long way before you actually make it to the huge gates of the Chateau. Then you have to follow an ancient building, a lot of it actually built into the rock, round and round, until you arrive at what looks like a Cave - of sorts.
We were welcomed today by a great guy who had us tasting several wines, whilst telling us in great detail about each one. This was in French, which we just about followed, and then a little English. Eventually we chose one that we liked and we bought a case.
A cat sat on the counter the whole time. He said it wasn't his cat but it followed him like a dog, even when he went out to the fields. Then he told us some tales about the cat. As we left he handed me a bottle of Rosé - 'for aperitif''. I took some photos of the amazing ancient chateau.
Tomorrow we will go to the local Cave and buy several cases of the local wine that we like to take home. It will cost half per bottle what we paid today. But, as we open a bottle of the Chateau de Mille when we are home and we look at the label, we will remember . . .
