From green to black...
We slept well and woke to the sound of the helicopters to-ing and fro-ing with water from the sea to douse areas still smouldering from yesterday. After breakfast we went for a walk and saw all the burnt hills around the village. My photo shows our rock walk, black and scarred. We were indeed not far ahead of the flames on our way back last evening.
The sun came out but the wind has been really strong all day. Everyone we met had their own story to share. All shocked, but all safe. Taverna and mini market owners too.The helicopters have continued their flights.
Then this evening it's started to rain. A much needed rain, and for now the wind has died down.
We've stayed put. Home tomorrow so packing to be done. New guests arriving for the last week of the season and a different landscape than the one that welcomed us, but a beautiful place to be with wonderful people. It will recover. Nature does that, and folk here are resourceful.
Again, very thankful for safety yesterday.
