Trekking
Tryin* to back blip but now a week behind as WiFi is so slow than it won’t often upload. Sorry I’ve not seen blips for ages - getting withdrawal symptoms!
It was windy, cooler and very hazy when we went to breakfast, which was again, 2 fried eggs on floppy toast. At 10 we met to go for a walk to try to get acclimatised for the trek up toFairy Meadows. Irfan led us. It was only 2.5 hours, but rough underfoot, combined with sand, along the irrigation channels to a pilgrimage place where a saint type blocked the mud and created a waterfall. We met a Granny with a poorly looking baby/toddler. If you go to the holy place your prayers will be answered. I hope so for the baby and family.
The views of the 5 or 6 7000m peaks surrounding us was amazing, as we headed up the valley about 800 m above the river gorge and the Karakoram Highway we’d driven down a couple of days ago.
We descended to a cart track and made our way back via 800 year old walnut trees and small farms. In one potato patch the mother was making a game for the children to race with bags of potatoes to where the bigger sacks were. They were all shrieking with laughter. Soon we reached the tarred road where young men were tearing up and down on motorbikes. The walk was so pleasant in the cooling breeze although it got very hot later in the afternoon.
Mr C took this picture of me on our walk.
