Someone local, Someone Famous

The Three Amigos wanted to know if there were any famous people in our town, well in our District we have Richard Pearse the first man on earth to leave the ground in powered flight. Lord Elworthy Marshall of the Royal Air Force was born in Timaru and Kelso thought this would make a great image as he being the older wiser gentleman was a bit like Lord Elworthy.  Distinguished Gentleman . The boys were quite amazed that our small area could have so many famous people. Trigger wanted to know if there were any other fast runners from Timaru, I told about 2, Jack lovelock who was a World Mile and 1500m Record holder and an Olympic 1500m Champion, he went to the School that is just behind our house and Dick Tayler who won a Gold Medal in the 10,000m at the 1974 Commonwealth Games in Christchurch. Rowan said to me I see he was a Freeman of the City of London and thats close to Ireland where Irish Wolfhounds come from, that's right Rowan just across the sea
