Strathblane
Back blip
Wednesday's walk with Cumbernauld & Kilsyth Ramblers was a rather damp affair - overhead, all around and (at times) underfoot. Apart from that, it was actually a very enjoyable walk!
We met at Strathblane and our circular route took us along a some good tracks, a couple of bits of the West Highland Way and the John Muir Way (occasionally the same track doubled up as both - see extras) and ending up on a very squelchy and muddy path for the last mile or so. The fairly heavy rain at the start eased off and, with the exception of the odd shower, was more of a fine drizzle for most of the way. But, as they say, there is no such thing as poor weather, just inadequate clothing!
Our social stop in a nearby hotel at the end was a bit of a disappointment. There seemed to be only one member of staff on duty (surely not?) and she wasn't exactly welcoming - a bit of customer care training wouldn't have gone amiss.
Although there were a few pieces of cake and some scones on display, it became obvious to those at the head of the queue that ordering them would cause serious delays to those waiting behind them. One of our group who ordered a meringue asked if there was any cream, only to be told that the chef wasn't in and she would have to eat it as it was! Later, while others were waiting for their drinks to be served, the house cat decided to have a stroll along the bar. We won't be back in a hurry.
Almost, but not quite, a good walk spoiled. At least the hotel lounge was warm and dry and, having changed out of our wet weather gear in the car park, we were happy to sit and blether for a while out of the rain.
