Yucca

Yucca (botanical name) or palm lily is a genus of succulent, perennial plants, which occur naturally in America. In addition, the word "yucca" is also used to indicate a plant from this genus.

The genus consists of about 40 species: the size varies from small shrubs to trees. The species all occur naturally in warm and dry areas in North America, South America and the Caribbean. The plants generally have thick, leathery leaves ending in a sharp point. The flowers are mostly white.

Yuccas are often grown as garden or ornamental plants. Yucca varieties are sometimes confused with the unrelated cassava (manioc) that is grown for edible parts and is called yuca in Spanish.
