Bruno (1548-1600, with a general apology in 2000)
Indeed, it‘s Bruno and not Darth Vader. Although both were at ease with the infinite space of the universe. A colleague just asked me, if I could bring him a shot of the monument of Giordano Bruno, being a cult figure for scientists and engineers.
We found out that his statue is on the Campo de‘Fiori (a central Roman market square) where he was burned because of his wicked words. Being a philosopher, mathematician, poet, and cosmological theorist, he insisted that the universe is infinite. Quite interesting to read about him and his life:
