Pandemic Legacy, Season 1, April

I don't know what's the problem with us and this game, but we keep making mistakes with the rules.

Before the game started we got the message that we had to gain 2 out of 3 objectives, which seemed strange to me, because we only had 2 objectives :
- Have a military base in each of the six major regions of the world
- Eradicate at least 1 disease
I mentioned it to the others but as we were also told to put the reminder token on the third infection rate spot, we figured we would get an extra objective later in the game.

Hannes played the Dispatcher, Leander the Quarantine Specialist, Kobe the Operations Expert and me the Scientist, Tarek was absent.

Our win bonus from last time :
- Add 1 military base anywhere on the board

We won the game (we thought) by gaining the two objectives above in 2 rounds, and started following further instructions. Because we won before the second epidemic was active, we had to do the changes after the game.

We had to open the following packages : R, U, E, S, V, 29, 36, 33, 31, 16 and box 3. A lot of work.
Things that changed :
- Faded cities : from now on, place faded figures instead of COdA cubes (including game setup). Cities will change into faded cities as faded figures appear in them (mark those cities with a faded cities sticker).
- If a faded city outbreaks into any city, even one that's a different color than the COdA virus, mark that city as a faded city. This city will now produce faded figures instead of cubes of its original disease. When cities of other diseades outbreak into a faded city, place cubes as per the normal rules.
- Starting turns with faded figures : when you begin your turn, if your pawn is in a city with one or more faded figures, take one scar and add it to your character card. Remember, if you cannot add a scar, your character is lost.

As we hadn't received a 3rd objective, we finally concluded that we had to keep a previous objective we discarded :
- Discover cures to the 3 normal diseases (this must always be one of the objectives you complete to win the game).

It became obvious we didn't play the game as it was supposed to be played and so decided to play on and try to gain this third objective too.
Which we managed with a bit of luck and careful planing. I (as the researcher) had to gain a lot of cards from the others (and received 2 reds myself after my turn) to finish the game by discovering a cure for red and black in my last turn (which is hard when you may only hold 7 cards and need 8 to finish up).
There were a lot of red and black cubes on the board and a lot of faded yellow figures. Not one single blue cube managed to get on the board this game, instead we had a lot of yellow to begin with (only 5 cubes left when we started the game).

Scars :
- The Dispatcher is now hobbled : you may never enter a fallen city

Game end upgrades :
- The Blue virus is now suppressed : when you treat, remove all the cubes of this color from your city (everybody is now a medic for the blue virus)
- Medic Character upgrade Grizzled : Do not gain a scar when you're in a city when it outbreaks

Win bonus for next game (may) :
- Remove a faded figure from the board and return it to the supply
New scars :
- Terrified : it takes one more action for you to drive/ferry to a city containing faded figures
- Feeble : it takes one more action for you to quarantine
- Paranoid : you cannot share knowledge except with someone you have a relationship with
Unfunded event :
- Air Strike : remove 1 faded figure from any city

We made some other mistakes this game :
- Due to the confusion about our objectives and the early opening of the packages, the scar we gave to the Dispatcher was unfair, but we decided to leave it (the stickers in this game are not that good)
- I later realised the unfunded event we got (Air Strike) and put on a city card was in fact a game end upgrade, and not to be used right away.
I think we can conclude that the two above cancel each other out, one good, one bad.

To conclude :
- I hope we pay better attention next time, but this is a complicated game (or we are just dumb, and NO it's not the fault of the guy who shuffles the deck, you can do that next time Leander)
