Memories
Today I stepped, albeit gingerly, into my studio for the first time for weeks since knee surgery.
I was encouraged after reading about Tania Bruguera's work in Tate Modern's Turbine Hall (yesterday Guardian) and came across this I “assemblage". It was a reminder that there is more to life than pain, painkilling tablets and exercises.
I first came across Cuban political art activist Tania Bruguera’s work when we both studiedat the School of the Art Institute in Chicago nearly 20 years ago.
Tania was already an established international artist and she was in the process of submitting work to the Korean Biennale and needed some sound footage of sheep.
Well I happened to be gong home to Wales for Christmas and brought back some recordings of sheep from the farm.
Tania was delighted.
And I shall always treasure the sound of sheep from my Welsh home farm echoing down the corridors of Chicago's most famous art school while Tania worked on the footage.
