Caen: Town Hall & St Stephen's Abbey

The Abbey (to the right) was originally called the Abbaye aux Hommes (Men's Abbey)


The church was completed in 1063, and William the Conqueror was buried here in 1087.  His tomb has been disturbed and pilfered several times since then; the last of his relics (a thigh bone) was stolen during the French Revolution.




The long Town Hall is built onto the south transcript of the Abbey
