A young man's fancy......
.....turns to love, 1937 style.....love the cliffhanger when the diary entry ends on the stroke of midnight ;-)
Doing a bit more local history research via the Mass Observation Online holdings today (partly due to weather, but mainly inclination!), this being a diary extract from a Mr G. V. B**** (aged 25, single, politically socialist), an assistant accountant at the local council who lived in lodgings just a few hundred yards from here.....and it makes for fascinating reading. Because it was written pre-war there doesn't seem to be any censorship of place names/venues etc (something that seems to happen in wartime entries, not sure if it was a case of personal censorship or it was a restriction imposed by the Mass Observation Project itself) so it paints a very real and detailed picture of one man's day-to-day existence 80 years ago.......
Hmmmm, I may have to see if I can track Mr B down on Ancestry and the British Newspaper Archive.........
EDIT :: After a bit of sleuthing I think this might have been the start of a beautiful relationship ;-)
