Ostriches

Man is not the pinnacle of evolution. Nope! That position is occupied by… (wait for it…) Emus! We work on Robots at CalTech. Specifically, walking robots. We started with machines with lots of legs – four or twenty or whatever – because, well, they don’t fall over is the simple reason. But we got into bipeds because, well, bipeds are cool aren’t they? The problems are interesting and, well, robots should look like proper robots – like us! But, here’s the thing, it turns out that the most efficent bipeds aren’t homo sapiens, they are Emus! (Well, Emus and Ostriches and Rheas – Ratites!). Something to do with the configuration of the legs and the low centre of gravity. Remember the AT-STs from Return of the Jedi? Turns out those Star Wars dudes knew what they were talking about! So, I give you, the pinnacle of evolution… The Ostrich!
