Fall Foliage
Not only are the maple trees turning colors, but so are the goldfinches. The difference being that the maples are turning a splendid golden-yellow, while the goldfinches are losing their vibrant summer hues. But no matter the season, it's hard to resist a goldfinch.
While I was sitting outside, a male Hairy Woodpecker (HERE on Flickr) came by for a visit. Usually this is a very skittish species, but this one came in to feed within 15 feet of where I was crouched. I suspect he may be a young bird from this year's brood. Anyway, they are always a nice species to see in the yard since they aren't as plentiful as the similar, but much smaller, Downy Woodpeckers.
Released Monarch #218, a female, today. From the looks of things, I may have one ready tomorrow and then I expect it will be a few days for the remaining 4. This is the easy part though - just waiting.
Had some exciting news last night, but can't share it just yet - stay tuned.
