Demise of the pine tree

From my chair in our lounge I looked onto a magnificent Scot's pine tree, which was huge.   So sad to look out today to find it being taken down.
It looked so healthy; why would anybody do that?    It was so lovely seeing it and watching the birds enjoy it and the ever changing light and shadows on the trunk.
