Four Thousand years look down

Rudston Monolith, I always visit once a year, and puzzle over how and why it came to be here.
How did our ancestors quarry it from nearly forty miles away, then get it here and stand it up and why?
And then Three thousand years later did they leave it untouched when they built the Church?
