Shades of the Palatinate

I always like this view from one section of the road into our village. The line of fir trees reminds me (though on a much, much smaller scale) of the forests in Germany's Palatinate region. For a few seconds I'm transported there - and as the autumn colours spread, the goldener Oktober effect grows ever stronger.

Except for the earlier arrival of long shadows and the sun's lower presence in the sky, today could have been thought of as mid-summer - warm, with clear blue skies. We have one more day of this before storms are set to kick in with a vengeance. I shall enjoy tomorrow!
