Kale
I have a pet theory that 95% of people are basically good people, with the other 5% being no-good. Unfortunately...the 5 % usually get the headlines in our newspapers and news shows.
I was out for a walk about a month ago when I saw this ornamental kale, and took out my camera. I took about 4 shots when I heard a booming voice.
"Hey...what are you doing?" Oh no...I thought...here is one of the 5 per cent.
"I'm just taking a picture of your cabbage."
"Why?" I thought it would sound goofy to say..."I just like pretty things." So I said..."I like the colors."
"Well"...she said gruffly..."follow me to the back yard." She got a garbage bag, and loaded it with flower bulbs. Not of the kale, but of another long red skinny plant she was growing.
The lesson learned? Although I usually trust my first impressions...sometimes they ARE wrong. She was a sweetheart, although it took a few minutes to surface. Come the spring...I will plant her bulbs.
Spending a lazy relaxing day watching our states high school football championships. 8 different divisions, 8 different games spread over 2 days.
I like football at this level. There is no knocking down your opponent, and screaming in his face. There are no touchdown dances. You score, and go hand the ball to the ref. A simple game where you play just to play. Refreshing.
35 and windy with snow flurries today after a nice sunny 60ish day yesterday. I hate to wail about the wind-forced gale...but I could do without it while shooting the kale. Made me glad I wasn't delivering the mail.
So...that's my tale of the female who grew the kale. Her name? Dale. (Her husband must be named Roy.) Now...I have to crop my thumbnail.
