The Asylum

I took the kids to visit Aunty Deborah and Robyn and we went for a walk in the grounds of Bangour Village Hospital. Originally the Edinburgh District Asylum,the grounds bought by The Edinbugh District Lunacy Board (really?) and used as a psychiatric hospital for 100 years, it is now sadly derelict and in a state of decay. Such an atmospheric, fascinating and slightly eerie place, all 960 acres of it (although we didn't quite make it round the whole site!). My camera battery was almost gone and we were running short on time so I didn't get a chance to photograph in any detail but will definitely be back soon to fully soak it up.

It was a lovely afternoon back at the other asylum with Jen and Cian at ours for a playdate / wine drinking sesh. Happy kids, happy mums and a dad who got peace for the day and the chance to watch a dvd in the comfort of his own bed - who could ask for anything more?
