Bunny Revenge.
Having a fairly stressful week so far so it was lovely to catch up with MsInk this morning for chats and giggles. She managed not to itch as I described in detail my imaginary flea infestation and pretended to look pleased as I presented her with the most horrible gift I could find.
I'm calling it 'Bunny Revenge', which if you've seen her previous presents to me to me should be self explanatory ;) Would love to see Cinn's face when she brings it home! I have firmly emphasized my expectation of seeing it in pride of place next time I pop round, and deep deep disappointment should it not be...
Afterwards I took a wander around the wee secondhand bookshops nearby, something I don't do nearly often enough especially as they are right on my doorstep. Lovely to have a bit of a browse even though most of the books are well out of my price range (more Antiquarian than Amazon's rock bottom prices! Sad but true.) and had a long chat with a sweet lady in Second Edition on Howard St (Canonmills), she's owned the shop for over 40 years (longest running secondhand bookshop run by one person and family in Edinburgh by the way!) and although her son now manages it she's still very much involved.
However due to the lease running out soon and a new unscrupulous landlord making life difficult and the rent going up considerably they have had to come to the really hard decision to close the shop :( It's so very sad and you could tell just how gutted she was by it, esp for her son who just loves the place and had been planning to take over the leasehold. Even worse I think, this isn't closure due to a lack of demand or people turning to online companies, it's due to the rent being pushed up so unrealistically that they have been left with no choice but to admit defeat.
So, Christmas Eve is going to be their final day and until then the majority of the stock is all half price to try and clear it out before they close. Her son specializes in Scottish books and will continue to do so online so they aren't included in the sale but there is loads of other amazing stuff up for grabs. Get down there people and help them shift some of their gorgeous books!
