Wet Window...

A kind of follow up to my Blip of exactly two months ago (24.9) 'Water Patterns, on my Window' this is the same window but less of droplets, more cascading rivulets...

It looks night-time but was mid afternoon. The approach very different, instead of the macro lens used within a few inches, this was taken with a 500mm mirror lens, (the Tamron SP, from the '80s) focussed almost at its closest focussing distance and using a tripod from the other side of the room.

The light source is a car headlight/s on the road below at a distance of about 100 yards, the extreme foreshortening of the very long lens making it seem closer, exaggerated by being out of focus. Those who recall this type of 'catadioptric' lens will know of the infamous doughnut shape highlights in the out of focus areas, which were largely ugly, making the lens unsuitable for what most snappers wanted this focal length for, wildlife.

Anyway, you can make a feature of a design flaw, as I believe I've managed to do. Lots of added sharpness, admittedly and fiddling with contrast and light densities bring out the best from the pattern, turning it into a surreal wax-like oil painting, perhaps...

Naturally, after taking all that trouble to set the whole lot up, took quite a few, this being one of the simpler ones. Focussing on the now leaf-free twigs and branches of the tree directly outside that has featured a fair bit in my blips, gave yet more interesting patterns, many quite surreal, like microscopic patterns of viruses and such. Well, you have to have a bit of an imagination on such a crap, dull day....?
