White Gum

The stony lower slopes of Mount Elliot National Park are covered in this thin savannah like forest. The stands of White Gum (Eucalyptus platyphylla)  create almost surreal landscapes, with their pure white trunks set against pale gold grasses and grey rocks.
At this time of year all their old pink bark is shed, together with any insect or plant pests, leaving at twilight a woodland of pale dancing forms – the ghost gums of the outback.
