Wound up in Wexford

Choisya

This little choisya was, as I recall, one of a number of little plants in a "mixed shrub" pack - sold for use in containers.  So it started life in a container, where it was probably allowed to dry out on several occasions, and didn't really thrive.

About a year ago, we took out of this spot a variegated pieris that wasn't doing well.  We have suitable acid soil for the pieris, but wondered if the proximity to the newly built wall (with leaching from the mortar) might be affecting it.  Instead, we popped in this choisya.

Until about a month ago, it too was looking very sorry for itself, with very little new growth.  Then suddenly, it got going, and now looks a thriving, albeit still rather small, plant.  We're very pleased.  It will make a nice contrast to the pittosporum Tom Thumb which is growing on the other side of the steps.

Having rained on and off most of the day yesterday, today is another lovely, warm autumn day.
