Sinterklaas comes to Terschelling

Today Sinterklaas came to Terschelling.
Sinterklaas is the Dutch cousin of SantaClaus. Sinterklaas lives in Spain and comes to the Netherlands every year to celebrate his birthday (on 6th dec). He travels over the rooftops on his white horse Amerigo. He has special helpers called Zwarte Piet (black Peter) who climb down the chimney (thats why they became black) to bring presents to the children. The children put a shoe near the chimney and fill it whit some hay or a carrot for Amerigo while singing special Sinterklaas songs. Zwarte Piet will then put some candy (often a chocolate letter) in the shoe while the children are asleep. Then on the eve of his birthday we celebrate "pakjesavond" (night of the presents), a big jute bag full of presents will be delivered at the back door.
