Waimakariri Gorge

I kayaked the Waimakariri Gorge yesterday. 70km of grade 2 river over 5 1/2 hours.

I've paddled it many times before but this was the first time in three years. It couldn't have been a better day. The weather was great - not too hot, not too cold, no wind. The river was very well behaved, with most of the features suitably challenging but not too desperate. I was the co-leader of a group of twelve, which is handful. There were a few swims, which slowed things down a bit, but I managed to stay dry!
