Mail Rail
We have had an instructive day on a coach trip with our National Trust support group.
The visit was to the Postal Museum and the Mail Rail, in London. The Postal Museum illustrates the whole history of mail communication and the Mail Rail was an opportunity to ride the rails under London in a specially adapted train to take passengers. We could see, via video presentations along the route, how mail was rapidly transported between sorting offices in London from 1927 until 2003.
Fortunately, the tunnels and tracks were preserved and, after lengthy debate, re-opened as a visitor attraction in 2017.
Well worth a visit.
