Khadijah Ibrahiim
I first passed her on the street a few days before, returning from a bike ride in the Dales. I was a little too far gone and it was a bit too late in the day to stop to ask her for her picture. We simply registered each other's smiles. She cut such a striking figure. Perhaps I did too? Probably not. Anyway, we then bumped into each other again later that evening at the Playhouse, where she was reading at an event around Windrush. I'd already guessed she was a poet. I've developed a radar for these things now. When I bumped into her again today, I had to grab the moment. She's a remarkable woman.
