Classic Beauties

Another day at Amsterdam and a visit to the museum Hermitage there, where as always is a gorgeous exhibition of arts that has its home in St Peterburg's Hermitage.

Here the Three Graces by Antonia Canova made by him at the time when his fame was set and each new work was eagerly awaited; this piece he'd made for Josephine de Beauharnais. Faithful to the Neoclassicism Canova embodied beauty in the form of the 3 classical godesses who personified feminine charm... the Three Graces, Aglaia & Eyphrosyni & Thalia.
Canova placed his figures all three inward and gazing at each other, this is in contrast to the classical antique composition, where the central figure is seen from her back. Canova's piece is from the early 19th C... 200 years of age now.
The lights in the museum changed density all the time, but here they're bright enough to evoid dark shadows. In contrast to last week's museum visit, taking pix was allowed here
