The Catch

It was a glorious summery day today and Blipmate and I went to Marahau in the hope of seeing the shy and elusive Banded Rail. We were successful and the Rail is in the extras because my favourite was the White-faced Heron we  watched fishing in a pool beside the track.

Look how proud he is of his catch -  clever bird. We were fascinated to see in the crystal clear water how the heron stirred up the pool bottom with his feet to  flush out anything that might be hiding in the mud.

Another heron flew in and we were interested to see that this one had very pink legs whereas the original one had yellow legs. I haven't yet managed to find out if this is a sexual difference or an age difference - or just the luck of the draw.
