Hope and Prey

I was about to take a photo of this lynx spider guarding her snack from a sneaky male when the honeybee crawled into the frame. Even better, I thought, taking the shot. But I was a split second too soon because the spider suddenly made a lunge at the bee, which reared up to shake it off. The speed and daring of the lynx spider was breathtaking. The male made himself scarce.
