Local Hero
We had an unusual event in town today.
The UK government has commissioned a commemorative flagstone for each of the 496 recipients of the Victoria Cross, the highest award for bravery, in the Great War of 1914 -18.
One of the recipients was a local man, a farmer, who returned to the Borders and to farming, only to die in a shooting accident some years later.
So today the town turned out for a ceremony to mark the occasion. Apparently when John Daykins was told that he had won the VC, he said "This will be something for Jedburgh". It's good that Jedburgh remembers.
