Receiving "help" clearing windfalls

We seem to have been very wasteful with our apples this year, lots have been spoiled by little pecks before we collected them. This might have something to do with the arrival of the chickens earlier this year. Lesson learned, collect more regularly next year. It has been a bumper harvest this year, it looks like the problem with a tomato mountain I had earlier this month has now moved to apples.
I have also been raking all the loose moss that the chooks have dug up since their arrival. It needed clearing whilst everywhere is so dry, once winter sets in and it gets wet it will cling to everything and be impossible to clean up. The pile of moss is the odd looking stuff under the wheelbarrow.
