Green belt!!! Not any longer.
I really don't know how this has been allowed. This is Ravelston Quarry, a local woodlands, a nature conservation area and in the middle of the green belt.
It has just been cleared to allow the building of 3 villas. There have been numerous planning applications over the years and they have all been turned down for the above reasons with input from our local councillor. Suddenly, the applications have been granted, the appeals turned down, trees removed and the ground cleared.
This area has remained undeveloped and an area where the woods and wildlife have been allowed to develop all of my life. There are badgers setts, ancient woodland and a wide range of plant life. Presumably somebody somewhere knows a good reason, probably financial, why such a site, less than a mile and a half from the centre of town, no longer matters.
I can't believe there are only going to be three houses built there, the site is huge, I wonder how long it will take for the application to be changed and many more houses built.
Having seen impressions of the houses http://www.michaellaird.co.uk/projects/ravelston-quarry/ I'm not impressed. I'm also intrigued that public access to the existing pond will be improved. It looks like it is built into one of the gardens.
