inspired by winter sunshine
Miller Bridge glowed in the winter sunshine as we looked back at it this afternoon. Much water has passed under its arches this year, but fortunately, it has remained within the confounds of the river bed - unlike on previous occasions....
In 1635, the wooden Miller Bridge was washed away, and in 1671, the Kent overflowed the churchyard where 'itt left much ffish' and in 1771, the Quakers were ejected from their devotions on 'the Sabbath Day' as 'The flood was in the Meeting Hous'.
Too many people this year have learned to their cost that excess water can do untold damage. Our thoughts are with them.
