Waterlogged Tern Valley

One of my favourite walks is only a few hundred yards from our front door. Usually the gentle River Tern weaves her elegant and tranquil way though the fields and meadows and the Nature Reserve nearby, but not today. When I went out, luckily wearing wellies, I saw that the Tern has finally given up the battle against yesterday's perpetual rain and has burst her banks. She was racing down the valley and spilled over the neighbouring fields.

I continued my walk and thought I would go the long way round and return via the Nature reserve only to find that the whole of the area was completely flooded. It would have been a really long way home to turn back so my adventurous Sherpa, and probably rather foolish, nature (in my current slightly weakened state of health) took a hold and I decided to battle on by getting up to the higher ground grabbing onto anything I could get hold of and eventually reached the steps to get up on to the familiar public footpath.

I then limped home on the same lane as this view and was very glad to see that the sheep have been rounded up and put in an enclosure safely away from the increasing rising waters.
